Behind the Technology

Polaris maintains a state-of-the-art software development and applications hosting environment that eliminates many of the barriers to integration of assessment into routine operational procedures. Our Web applications are served from an industrial-strength Web server platform, including Apache Tomcat Web server, an n-tier application architecture and Hibernate persistence framework.

Here’s why Polaris’s strong IT platform matters:

It keeps data secure.

Polaris maintains secure servers for all client data. Multi-layered network security measures prevent intrusion and protect against viruses, spyware, etc. Internal files are backed up and stored securely off-site. All communication of user-identifiable information is done over SSL to ensure user privacy. Polaris hosts patient-identifiable data for some of the largest health care providers in the nation. After more than 140,000 patient assessments, the security of Polaris data has never been breached.

Polaris systems work well with others, including electronic health records (EHRs).

They are designed for interoperability with other systems, and support sharing of large data files with third parties (eg., nightly updating of managed care member eligibility data). Polaris solutions can also be fully integrated with EHR systems utilizing the HL7 and Web services interphase, which is compatible with most EHRs.

It protects against service disruption.

Treatment programs depend upon regular assessments as part of the clinical process. Polaris provides regular, remote back-up of patient data files and 24-hour disaster recovery.

It provides for compliance with regulatory requirements.

Polaris IT provides strong, HIPAA-compliant security, privacy and authentication. Polaris systems have gone through extensive HIPPA compliance reviews from major health care systems.

Polaris distributed access makes life easier for patients and staff.

Patients can complete assessments from home, clinicians and administrators can access data remotely.

It provides for nearly unlimited expansion and customization.

Polaris systems are scalable, and new assessment instruments are easily added.
