Polaris Health Directions published in Archives of Internal Medicine
June 2005

Grant Grissom, Ph.D., president of Polaris, and Robert A Phillips, M.D., professor at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester, are the authors of, "Screening for Depression, This is the Heart of the Matter," in the June edition of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

The editorial focuses on the prevalence and associated risk of depression in cardiac patients. Many cardiac patients-- as high as 30 to 45 percent--experience clinically important depressive symptoms. The impact of depression on cardiac outcomes is at least as important as a history of myocardial infarction and left ventrical dysfunction.

Reprints of the editorial are available from Polaris or by requesting one directly from the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Polaris is currently conducting a study on the relationship between the treatment of depression and cardiac outcomes through a grant from NIH.
