POLARIS PRESENTS ON DV PRODUCT AT THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HEALTH AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
October 13, 2009
This past weekend, Polaris Health Directions presented at the National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence on the benefits of using an automated clinical decision-support system for the assessment and treatment of interpersonal violence. Dr. Linda Toche-Manley, Vice President of Polaris, and Diana Bass, Program Director for the Beacon Child and Family Program at the University of North Carolina, spoke of the implementation of the Polaris-DV (Domestic Violence) product in a number of inpatient service areas at UNC, including Ob/Gyn, Internal Medicine, Inpatient Psych, and Chemical Dependency.
Their presentation, entitled "Innovative Clinical Tool for Assessing IPV and Abuse Recovery," was an Innovative/Promising Practice Program Report. During their talk, Toche-Manley and Bass emphasized the need to expand efforts beyond just screening for domestic violence to ongoing monitoring and the use of data to better predict outcomes, including the avoidance of revictimization. Participants were also provided with information about free trials of the domestic violence product.
The conference was held in New Orleans, La., and was sponsored by the Family Violence Prevention Fund.
